Right Atrium Showing Interatrial Septum with Fossa Ovalis & Coronary Sinus Opening

Yellow - wall of the right atrium (cut)
Green - fossa ovalis
Blue - opening to coronary sinus
Explanation - This shows the interatrial septum side of the right atrium with the fossa ovalis a remnant of the foramen ovale that closed at birth.
The foramen ovale was a path that connected the right and left atrium in the fetal heart, thus allowing the blood of the fetus to bypass the lungs.
The blood that nourished the heart organ returns via cardiac veins to the coronary sinus.
The deoxygenated blood is than emptied from the coronary sinus into the right atrium.
